When to Consider Therapy for Your Child or Adolescent

Parents often seek therapy when they notice:

  • Increased anxiety or school avoidance
  • Emotional outbursts or irritability
  • Difficulty regulating emotions
  • Low self-esteem

  • Grief or family transitions
  • Identity exploration
  • Academic stress

Early support can prevent patterns from becoming more entrenched and help children develop healthy coping skills that last into adulthood.

Play Therapy for Children (Ages 5+)

When to Consider Therapy for Your Child or Adolescent

When to Consider Therapy for Your Child or Adolescent

For younger children, therapy looks different than it does for adults. Kelsey works with children ages 5 and older, incorporating play therapy techniques to help children communicate feelings in a way that feels natural and safe.

Through structured play, creative expression, and skill-building activities, children can:

  • Identify and name emotions
  • Learn calming strategies
  • Practice problem-solving
  • Build confidence
  • Improve behavior and emotional regulation

Play is a child’s language — and therapy meets them where they are developmentally.

Support for ADHD and Attention Challenges

Many children and teens we work with struggle with attention, organization, and emotional regulation—often described as ADHD or attention-related challenges.

This might look like:

  • Difficulty focusing or staying on task
  • Trouble with organization, time management, or follow-through
  • Frequent frustration, emotional outbursts, or low tolerance for stress
  • Challenges at school, including incomplete work or inconsistent performance
  • Ongoing tension at home around expectations, routines, or responsibilities

For many families, these patterns can feel confusing or exhausting—especially when a child is capable, but struggling to meet expectations.

We provide ADHD-informed therapy that focuses on building practical skills while also understanding the emotional impact of these challenges.

This includes:

  • Strengthening executive functioning skills like organization, planning, and follow-through
  • Supporting emotional regulation and frustration tolerance
  • Helping children and teens better understand how their brain works
  • Working with parents to create structure, consistency, and realistic expectations at home

Our approach is collaborative and tailored—recognizing that ADHD is not just about attention, but about how a child experiences and responds to the world around them.
